digger derrick

When it’s time to upgrade your fleet’s digger derricks, look no further than Drake-Scruggs. We sell Versalift digger derricks because they are a leader in quality and innovation. The powerful TMD series is commonly used by telecommunications, electric and construction companies. In addition to being quality powerful machines, the TMD series is durable and easy to maintain. Sheave heights go up to 51 feet. Winches may be mounted on the chassis platform of your choice with capacities up to 15,000 pounds.

Quality Digger Derrick Specifications

A quality digger derrick will have lower and intermediate booms made from high-strength steel. The TMD series uses high-strength steel in both booms and high-strength fiberglass in the upper boom. The upper boom’s insulation is certified for 46kV and below and meets ANSI A10.31 dielectric rating requirements.

The hydraulically driven rotation drive uses a worm and spur gear on a shear ball rotation bearing. The gearbox measures any side loads that are applied to the boom and features a load sense for that measurement. The boom lift cylinder features two double-acting hydraulic cylinders. Both cylinders feature self-aligning spherical bearings with dual counterbalance holding valves to drive the extension system.

A quality digger derrick will have a system to protect the hydraulic system from overload. The Versalift TMD series uses a non-electronic overload protection system to sense side loads and boom lift cylinder pressure at the gearbox. The system then disables the operation of any major components once it detects an overload. The hydraulic system is an open center tandem system, giving the digger and the winch 40 gallons-per-minute flow. The boom gets 15 gallons per minute. The boom circuit operates at 2,600 psi while the winch and digger operate at 2,300 psi.

This series uses high-strength hard chrome plated steel pins in the main pivot and cylinder joints. The steel pins feature reinforced Teflon non-lube bearings. And, you’ll have a continuous rotation that is unrestricted in either direction. The 52-inch tall pedestal uses a 1.5-inch thick steel top plate that is machined flat so that it fully supports the rotation bearing.

The TMD series features a turntable winch with its own hydraulic motor, worm gearbox, drum and holding valve so that you have the hydraulic power you need at the winch. The 15,000-pound maximum capacity winch gives you 35 feet-per-minute line speed and 40 gallons per minute flow.

Additional Features

The Versalift TMD series features an engine stop and start control that is operated by a toggle switch on the lower panel controls. Gauges include a digger / winch pressure gauge which monitors the pressure that is generated while the digger and / or the winch is in use. Another gauge monitors boom pressure while you are using the boom control valve.
